Mysore Dasara 2010 Jambu Savari
Mysore Dasara is a state festival of Karnataka, it is celebrated for 10 days. Dasara or Vijayadashami, the last day of Navaratri is a jubilant festival to mark the conclusion of Mysore Dasara festival.

Mysore Dasara 2010 starts on October 8th and ends on October 17th. In 2010, it marks the 400th year of celebrations. Mysore Chamundeshwari Temple is one of the Astadasha Shakti peetham (18 popular Shakti temples).

The procession of elephants (Ambari), exhibitions of handicrafts and artifacts, air show, wrestling competitions, Jambu Savari, Food mela, etc are the most popular events and celebrations of Mysore Dasara.

Vijayadashami being the last day of the celebrations, a grand Jamboo Savari/procession passes through the streets of the city. The main attraction here is the idol of the goddess Chamundeshwari placed in the golden howdah on top of the Ambaari aane/elephant seat. The golden howdah is made using 80Kgs of gold. In the glorious past, when the kings ruled the state of Mysore, the kings used to sit in the howdah during the procession.

The procession is inaugurated in a traditional way by worshipping the Nandi Dhwaja (a sacred pole) at the Balarama Gate of Mysore Palace. A 21 gun salute booms at the palace grounds.

The residential school at the foot of a hill can house 40 athletes, has a multi gym, a 400-metre mud track and space earmarked for a synthetic track. The school now trains 19 athletes. Speaking to Financial Chronicle, during an early morning training session at the new campus, Usha does not hold back her anger and frustration in dealing with successive governments at the state and at the centre to create a sporting infrastructure even as she directs her protégé Tintu Luka to complete the 800-metre run in less than two minutes.
